Manufacturers write service intervals for temperate climates — Europe and Japan. Phuket means +35 °C year-round, high humidity and intensive city riding. Oil degrades roughly twice as fast. Below are two tables: what the manual says, and what we actually recommend.

Can you fix my scooter if I didn't rent it from Happy Rent?
Yes, absolutely. Our repair service is fully independent. We work with anyone renting or riding a scooter in Phuket, regardless of which shop the bike came from.
What happens if I return a damaged scooter without fixing it?
Thai rental shops are entitled to charge their own rates for any visible damage on return. These can be 3–5× the real market repair cost. Fixing it beforehand at a fair price is almost always the better — and cheaper — option.
How often should I change the engine oil on a scooter in Phuket?
For 125–160cc scooters (Honda PCX 160, Yamaha NMAX): every 2 000 km. For 300–350cc (Honda Forza 350, ADV 350, Yamaha XMAX 300): every 3 500 km. Manufacturers specify 4 000–12 000 km, but those intervals are designed for temperate climates. Phuket's constant +35 °C heat and high humidity degrade oil roughly twice as fast.
Should I change transmission oil separately?
Yes. Manufacturers give only a time-based interval (every 2 years) with no km figure. In Phuket we recommend changing it together with engine oil: every 4 000 km for 125–160cc and every 7 000 km for 300–350cc. Engine + transmission oil change costs from 350 ฿.
When should I replace the air filter?
The manufacturer says 18 000–19 000 km. We recommend every 8 000–10 000 km in Phuket. High humidity and road dust clog the filter element much faster than in a dry or temperate climate. A clogged filter means richer mixture, higher fuel consumption and reduced engine life.
What is CVT variator service and why does it matter?
The CVT variator transfers engine power to the rear wheel. Service includes cleaning the pulleys, rollers and housing, then checking all components for wear. Parts are replaced as needed. We recommend every 8 000–10 000 km. A neglected variator causes jerky starts and sluggish acceleration.
Why check coolant level every 4 000 km?
Coolant gradually evaporates, especially in tropical heat. A low level leads to engine overheating. At every oil change we check the level and top up as needed — it takes two minutes and prevents serious damage.
